DESCRIPTION:Our Formation in Christ: Catalysts and Barriers\nWhat opens us more deeply to growth and faithfulness in Christ? What seems to hinder our formation as persons and communities in Christ? And\, how can we set the table for adults to discover and sustain lifelong apprenticeship to Jesus? \nCarve out some time to relax and pray and pay attention to the things that matter in your life and faith community. Join like-minded friends as we hold space to learn\, explore\, and encourage one another toward a more relational way of life and ministry. \nHeld at beautiful Green Bay Bible Camp (West Kelowna\, British Columbia)\, beginning with dinner (5:30 pm) on Monday\, October 5\, and ending at 11:00 AM on Wednesday\, October 7. \n  \nSchedule:\n\nMonday\, October 5\nAfter 4 PM – Arrive\, check in\n5:30 PM – Dinner\n7:15 PM – Session One: The Invitation to the Table – The invitation and vision Jesus gives us for life and ministry with him.\n\n  \n\nTuesday\, October 6\n8:00 AM – Breakfast\n9:00 AM – Session Two: Who Shares the Table With You? – Catalysts for formation\, including spiritual companionship and the ways others contribute to our growth in Christ.\n                 – Session Three: What Makes It Hard to Stay at the Table? — Part 1 – Barriers to formation\, including how we deal with engaging cultural differences/otherness\, ordinary life (acedia)\, twists and turns along the way.\n12:30 PM – Lunch\n1:30 PM – An Afternoon of Engaging Beauty\, Rest\, and Play\n5:30 PM – Dinner\n7:15 PM – Session Four: What Makes It Hard to Stay at the Table? — Part 2\, led by Dr. Sandy Shier – Barriers such as trauma\, recovery\, trust\, and how to set the table (trauma-informed facilitation/leadership).\n\n  \n\nWednesday\, October 7\n8:00 AM – Breakfast\n9:00 AM – Session Five: Setting the Table for Others – Returning to Jesus’ vision and setting the table for a relational environment (a mentoring culture).\n11:00 AM – Gathering concludes\n\n\n  \nThe guides for our Gathering:\nJim Matthies has been married to his wife\, Janna\, for 29 years\, and together they have three adult children. For the past 28 years\, they have made their home in Indianapolis\, where Jim has served as a local church pastor. Most recently\, he has been part of Common Ground Church\, serving as Formation Pastor for the past 17 years\, overseeing both formation and missions. \nJim delights in retreating with God\, backpacking\, exploring new cities and countries\, watching baseball\, and engaging in thoughtful conversations about politics and current events. He brings to our gathering a deep joy in guiding others to expect God’s presence and to live with greater freedom and deeper roots. \n  \n  \n \nPamela Edwards\, PhD\, serves VantagePoint3 Ministries by thinking about best practices for Adult Learning and Growth\, with a particular eye on developmentally minded leaders. She co-authored A Mentoring Guide: Christ. Conversation. Companionship (VP3\, 2019)\, as well as the recently refreshed Journey process. \nPam and her husband\, Teryl\, have been married 40 years. They have three adult children and 12 grandchildren\, which includes two sets of identical twins! Pam loves a good long walk/hike and looks forward to having and hosting meaningful conversations. \n  \n  \n \nRobert Loane serves as President of VantagePoint3 Ministries (VP3)\, seeking to both learn and encourage a more relational way of life and ministry. He is co-author of Deep Mentoring: Guiding Others on Their Leadership Journey (IVP\, 2012) and A Mentoring Guide: Christ. Conversation. Companionship (VP3\, 2019). He has been the lead writer of The Journey process and other VP3 processes for the last 20 years. At the core of his life and work\, Rob loves helping people find ways to have better conversations about the things that matter most in their lives. \n  \n  \n \n\nDr. Sandy Shier supported women and children fleeing domestic violence before serving as a pastor with Metro Community\, a predominantly street-level community. Today\, she mentors female leaders and serves as a spiritual director\, helping others discover their strengths and navigate life’s transitions. Sandy also currently serves on two boards\, Freedom’s Door and Kelowna Gospel Mission. A confident\, intentional leader with a strategic mind\, a strong sense of justice\, and a healthy dose of humor\, she thrives in empowering others to become their best selves. \n\nMarried for 42 years\, she’s mom to three married children and grandmother to eight—her favorite roles and her best ongoing education in love\, laughter\, and life.
