Experience an uncommon, faith-deepening, community-building, and life-shaping pathway of processes

"We must grow up in every way … into Christ."

Transform your adult discipleship culture with a proven pathway and leader training.

Our deep concern is to cultivate spiritually mature adults in a culture that values quick fixes and easy answers. Begin with The Journey; it provides a context and a space in your community for an extended conversation about God, ourselves, and where we fit in God’s kingdom work in the world.

The Journey

Exploring who God is, who we are, and what God desires to do through our lives.

A Way of Life

Learning what it means to sustain a lifelong apprenticeship with Jesus.

Walking with Others

Learning to guide other adults toward a deeper maturity in Christ.

What is The Journey?

“We are drowning in information while starving for wisdom.” -E. O. Wilson

There can be such a disconnect between all that we know and how we actually live.

We who care deeply about this disconnect, about this hunger for wisdom, must faithfully cultivate spaces and places where adults can take a deep dive into their own lives in light of the stunning story of Jesus. The Journey is one such place.

It is a meaningful walk with a group of adults guided by three primary questions: Who is God? Who am I? What does God desire to do through me?

The Journey is a commitment, and the rewards can be significant.

A typical Journey group meets together weekly, guided by a trained facilitator who encourages safe relationships, thoughtful reflection, honest conversation, accountability, and prayer. The facilitator or group leader’s role is not to be the “subject matter expert” but to guide the group through this transformative set of reflections, experiences, and relationships.

Journey participants have said:

85% said The Journey deepened their relationship with God.
89% said it enhanced the application of the Bible to their lives.
88% said it revealed the importance of community and relationships as a key ingredient to spiritual growth.

Launching The Journey groups

To help more adults experience The Journey, groups have been launched in churches, ministries, Christian leadership settings, seminaries, and recovery communities across the world. We do that by partnering with potential leaders, equipping and training them to lead our unique group discipleship pathway.

Training Leaders for Journey Groups

The purpose of The Journey is the development of people, not the mastery of the content. Consequently, VP3 places a high value upon the preparation of those who facilitate or lead this person-centered process. Leaders will need to participate in Journey facilitator training, which consists of two components:

The Journey Leader Training Retreat

This two-day retreat will take a deep dive into the effective small group facilitation of The Journey, the lifelong dynamics of adult discipleship and development, and your spiritual development as a leader. These two-day retreats are typically offered in the summer months.

The Journey Online Leader Training

Carve out 2.5 to 3 hours to prepare yourself to lead The Journey for a group of adults. We’ll jump right into the central learning experiences of The Journey and effective small group facilitation practices. Online leader trainings are offered throughout the year.

Resourcing and Support

We’re committed to supporting you along the way, not just during training. VP3 Leaders+ is a continuous resourcing and support platform for trained leaders. We provide session planners for each process, essential tools and proven steps to help you invite others to join your group. Access to the VP3 team is available for questions and timely assistance in facilitating key sessions.

What leaders are saying about The Journey

Success stories
There is no question, from my chair, The VP3 Pathway continues to be the means by which hungry people here are tasting the kingdom in a way they hadn’t before. These processes are helping us help adults climb through barriers and discover who they are … there are just breakthroughs happening in each person … connectedness, sharing, redefining what community in Christ really is. It’s been so rich.

Mike Lueken, Senior Pastor Oak Hills Church in Folsom, CA

Co-author of Renovation of the Church (IVP)

While other curriculums may meet short-term needs, we have found the long and slow processes of VantagePoint3 to provide our people with the depth of content and relationship they are seeking.

Marilyn Miller, Director of Spiritual Formation, Faith Church in Dyer, IN

I see The Journey serving as a kind of “greenhouse” for spiritual growth, where ideal conditions are provided for growth: supportive community, accountability to Bible reading and reflections, solid curriculum, mentoring, experiential learning, and an exploration of unique design. I have seen people embrace authentic community, find roles in the church and in the marketplace more in line with their God-given design, and respond affirmatively when invited into leadership positions.

Lyle Buyer, Senior Lead Team Pastor at McKernan Baptist Church in Edmonton, AB

Frequently Asked Questions

You do not have to participate in a group before you lead it. Lead as you go. Over 40% of those who lead The Journey are going through it for the first time.
Look for individuals with whom you believe God is working in—those who show a hunger to know and learn more and are ready to take a significant step in their faith journey.
Your Journey group does not need to be associated with a church. Starting a group within or outside your church is a great way to develop friendships and build community.
Typically, 6 to 12 people make up a Journey group. The most effective groups tend to be made up of men and women, young and old.
Sometimes, it is helpful to call our office to discuss specific dynamics related to your setting (605) 362-1165. Generally, the next step is to attend a What is The Journey? webinar.
The Journey is an excellent cohort experience that satisfies the Christian Spirituality outcome for all programs.
